The Joe 238 Foundation is a volunteer run non-profit 501(c)(3) established in 2015 to honor our friend Joe Chairez. The Joe 238 Foundation believes Joe was one of West Sacramento’s true pioneers of organ donation and a hero, saving four lives. Joe knew long before it was well established, that blood, tissue and organ donation was important and lifesaving.
Joe worked with the Sacramento Police Department beginning in 1997 and aspired to be a K-9 Police Officer. During field training in November of 2000, Officer Joe Chairez, badge number 238, sustained a brain aneurysm while on duty. At his request, he continued to help others by donating his organs. His decision to become an organ donor influenced numerous others to donate life.
The Joe 238 Foundation honors Officer Joe Chairez by educating the public regarding blood, bone marrow and organ donation, and supports and promotes educational and charitable activities related to law enforcement, fire service and military communities.
Joe 238 Foundation will honor donor families and educate the public regarding blood donation, bone marrow and organ, eye and tissue donation.
